The Most Prolific Vegetables in My Garden are Miniature!
High yield vegetables – that’s what we want, right? Well, this year my garden went miniature! And not in the way you’re thinking – my veggies had a HUGE yield. But, everything was tiny, and oh so adorable.

You’ve probably heard, or grown, other miniature prolific vegetables like cherry tomatoes or little gem lettuce, but these little balls of goodness will delight you every time you walk in the garden. They’re the perfect size for little hands to harvest alongside you- my youngest son joins me each time it’s time to pick.
These tiny powerhouses know how to grow well, plus they are the perfect snack while you’re busy harvesting other produce in the garden. They bring a smile to my face each time I pick some (and it’s every day because they grow so fast).

So what are these high yield vegetable plants?

🍅 Spoon Tomatoes: These miniature tomatoes make cherry tomatoes look like giants. They are the size of peas, and if you let them fully ripen, they are very flavorful. Don’t eat them when orange, the skin is still too thick at that point.
🍐Yellow Pear Tomatoes: While I say miniature, these are the biggest of my mini veggies. They are about the size of cherry tomatoes but add some fun yellow color to the garden and are very mild in taste.
🥒 Cucamelons: While they look like miniature watermelons, they taste like a citrusy cucumber. These mini cucumber plants will vine almost anywhere, and it will vine a lot! I have mine vining up my fence around my yard. They are so prolific, you may get sick of eating them, so don’t go overboard when planting.

Where do I find these miniature vegetable varieties?
All three vegetable seeds can be found at Baker Creek Seeds.
Warning! You may only have to buy these seeds once. If you plant these summer vegetables in your garden, don’t be surprised if they come back year after year as volunteers (plants you don’t plant but that germinate and grow on their own the next season). I drop a lot of these guys in the dirt since they are so small!
Our yellow pear tomatoes are in year 4 of stepping up as volunteers, and we even have to remove several plants each season. They will take over if you don’t watch it!
Let us know in the comments if you’ve ever grown miniature vegetables in your garden, we love to try new varieties.
